Abstract

Does the revocation of tax identification number constitute a genuine tax sanction? The blocking of bank accounts, the inability to take part in public documents, the closure of Mercantil and Property Registries, or the denial of a certificate proving compliance with tax obligations are only some of the serious consequences resulting from this measure. This paper analyzes the legal nature and procedure for revoking the ID tax number examining whether, considering its effects and purpose, the principles and procedure of tax sanctions should be applied.
